DOG CATCHES CAR!!!

Well, not exactly, but I'm thinking that's pretty much the quandary we're in now that we've "caught" Iraq. What the hell do we do with it? Tell the Chinese when they're through building their erector set dam across the Yangtze to utilize their wall building expertise and throw one up around Iraq in their spare time to keep the neighborhood crazies out? An idea that would throw the NRA wildeyes into a froth, but after Iraq's borders are defended, we need to disarm those cats - totally. No, Muhammad, I'm sorry; K-Mart will no longer be having Bluelight specials on hand grenades, anti-tank rockets, Russian AK-47's and Stingers. If the Kurds, Baaths, Shittes and whatever the hell else kind of Islamic Hatfield & McCoys they've got over there still want to settle an offense that happened 2,000 years ago, let them duke it out like we have to over parking places at the mall every Christmas.

The Little Lamb
Mary had a little lamb,
His fleece was white as snow.
And everywhere that Mary went,
The Lamb was sure to go.

He followed her to school each day,
T'wasn't even in the rule.
It made the children laugh and play,
To have a Lamb at school.

And then the rules all changed one day,
Illegal it became
To bring the Lamb of God to school,
Or even speak His Name.!

Every day got worse and worse,
And days turned into years.
Instead of hearing children laugh,
We heard gun shots and tears

What must we do to stop the crime,
That's in our schools today?
Let's let the Lamb come back to school,
And teach our kids to pray!

Two elderly gentlemen from a retirement center were sitting on a bench under a tree when one turns to the other and says, "Sam, I'm 83 years old now and I'm just full of aches and pains. I know you're about my age. How do you feel?" Sam says, "Well, I feel just like a new-born baby." "Really!? Like a baby!?" "Yep. No hair, no teeth, and I think I just wet myself."

One day, at a restaurant, a woman suddenly screamed, "My husband's choking! He swallowed a quarter! Help! Please help!

A man from a nearby table stood up and announced that he was quite experienced at this sort of thing. He coolly stepped over, grabbed the man by the you - know - whats and squeezed. Out popped the quarter.

"Oh, thank you! Thank you!" the woman cried. "Are you a doctor?" "No," replied the man. "I work for the IRS."

Funnee. Reminder: if you haven't protested to your elected representative about taxation on unemployment benefits, do it now.

God forbid, but one never knows - maybe some day you'll be unemployed. No phone, no pool, no pets, no cigarettes.

In February 1990 I was assigned to B-15th Engineer Battalion at (North) Ft. Lewis, Washington. After fighting fires in Oregon, providing Tactical/Special Operations support in Yakima, Washington, serving in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, assisting with the deactivation of the 15th Engineer Battalion and the 9th Infantry Division, I completed my enlistment on November 4, 1991.

COMMENTS:

When I was about a year old, we moved to Roberts, Wisconsin. After living in Roberts for almost 12 years, we moved to River Falls, Wisconsin to be closer to school and other activities. We stayed in River Falls for about 2 years and then moved to Washington State in 1987.

Leaving Central Washington University in the Spring of 1995, I went to work for a Casino Management & Consulting firm in Kent. Setting up and managing the office for them, I was officially titled Executive Secretary to the Vice President of Operations - but really I was the office manager/administrator. Not long after I left in the Fall of 1995, this company was dissolved. I don't know if it really was due to my not being there, but I like to think so...

I then went to work for Future Shop - wow... great sales training! Unfortunately, there were some major things happening to the company (lawsuits) and people were dropping like flies. A better opportunity presented itself to work for the good guys! the funny store, with the funny lower case logo. the good guys! really treated me fair, but I should have realized something when my department manager left shortly after he hired me. I think Mike was probably the most fair and caring managers I have had - and I have had several in my short RUT - oops I mean career. He was straight and yet flexible. I lost touch with him shortly after he left - if you are reading this, or someone knows where he is, I would like to get in touch with him again.

the good guys! gave me a great deal of product knowledge and other opportunities. However, reduced commissions and very slow spring sales prompted me to continue looking. Lynn, was already working for Expeditors International by this time, and we heard of an opportunity at EI - and the rest is history. I started at EI on April 14, 1997 working in the Distribution department.

After working at EI's Kent Operations Branch for over 4 years, I made the jump to the Corporate Office in downtown Seattle. I started working in the EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) Group as a Coordinator on December 1, 2001. It can be hard to explain what EDI is and does, basically it helps computer systems talk to each other, click the link above for more info on EDI.

As an EDI Coordinator, I work with our internal, and external customers to set up the EDI partnership. I then analyze requirements, answer questions on new EDI, implement new customers, set up the transactions and notify EDI support of new or enhanced EDI processes. Then I produce specifications (maps) for programming, layouts for customers, documentation for setup of branch systems for EDI Support and branch EDI procedures.

CORRESPONDENCE:

Hi Dick - Thanks for the feedback - glad to see this feature is still working! Sure, I'm not opposed to you using my profile - it's already out there for the world to see...

That was great what you did for Felisha - I actually got to meet her this past year - two of my Uncles passed-away (within 24hrs of each other), one of which was her Grandfather. We had 2 services on a Friday, one in the morning and one in the evening. It was a trying week. My sister, wife, and I drove straight through to CO from WA on a Friday evening after work to visit one of the Uncles before he passed - he was essentially in a coma by the time we arrived, however we all hope he had some indication that he knew we were there. Just 2-3 days earlier he was alert and took pictures with 2 of his brothers who had driven down from WI to see him one last time. It was quite a shock to hear that the 2nd Uncle passed 24hrs later.

Out of 6 brothers, now only 2 are left. My Father Seth, was the first of that immediate family to pass in 1979. Then my Grandmother Myrtle passed shortly after they (her and Floyd) celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in the early 90's (don't remember the date off-hand). Less than a year or so, my Grandfather Floyd passed, and their youngest son Tom ("Buck" is what we all called him) died due to medical complications - he was a very large man, and did not take good care of himself health-wise - that all happened about 95-96 I think... All was 'calm' until my Uncle Ron (in CO) developed a cancerous like condition called "Langerhan's Cell Hystiocytosis". He battled that for about 7-8mos before succumbing to it's grip - it developed into a sarcoma in the end, closing the noose on his vibrant life.

His older brother Don, passed due to kidney failure the next day. Don had several complications, and it seemed that he was tired of all the problems - he was ready to take his next step from what I understand...

China's Three Gorges Dam I've faithfully reported the cracks appearing in the dam itself, now this: Numerous cracks have also developed on the blades of four of the German-built turbines, according to a March 20 report in the Big River News (Dahe Bao), a Henan-based newspaper serving the Yellow River basin. The cracks have occurred in the same location on every damaged blade, the newspaper said. In the most serious case, cracks have appeared on 13 blades of one turbine…! The builders of the Xiaolangdi dam investigated the problem for more than a year, the newspaper reported. They concluded that the cracks were the result of violent shuddering that occurs when the turbines are started, stopped or operated at full capacity.

This is great! The most humongous engineering project on the planet, using the most enormous hydroelectric turbines ever devised by man and Mickey Mouse is building them. I hope CNN covers the startup. This is one I want to see. P.S. They've started filling it.

The following ad was in the Atlanta Journal:

SINGLE BLACK FEMALE seeks male companionship, ethnicity unimportant. I'm a very good looking girl who LOVES to play. I love long walks in the woods, riding in your pickup truck, hunting, camping, and fishing trips, cozy winter nights lying by the fire. Candlelight diners will have me eating out of your hand. Rub me the right way and watch me respond. I'll be at your front door when you come home from work, wearing only what nature gave me. Kiss me and I'm all yours. Call xxx-xxxx and ask for Daisy.

Dear Dick, I guess I would have to say things are just as busy as ever. I am on Spring break right now and working on becoming a National Board Certified Teacher. It's a major project - like doing a 5 credit college course. All my work goes in by April 15, then I sit and wait until Thanksgiving to see if I made it. It's worth about $3500 a year if I pass.

I am heading north again this summer with my oldest grandson. We will go see Aunt Ruth (Coolbeth) Jones in Hillsboro, NH and also my father's grave in Eden, VT. He is a history buff like me, so we are doing the Presidential Home Tour. Probably about 20 homes between FL and VT. Also we are going to have fun at the Cape Cod Potato Chip Factory, Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory and Hershey Park. That should keep us out of mischief for a few weeks!

Hope things are going well with you. Maybe one of these summers I will make it west and meet you. TTYL Cuz Nat Coolbeth-Whalen, Perry, Florida

BLUE RIBBONS

Ahsowhat Project of the Month: Because you are something special, I am giving you this blue ribbon to wear. Take the other three, honor someone else with one and give him or her the other two, one to wear and one to pass on. Tell a person he or she has made a difference in your life and how special he or she is to you. This is a greatly abbreviated blurb; the original had many stories of how people have perked up after getting one of these "awards." Please report your experiences back to Betty Colbath-Hamilton, Bishop Hill Apt 18 Dexter, Maine 04930.

Hi Dick, sorry I didn't get back to you right away, I don't get on the computer very often anymore. Yes I am the one that was looking for a Calvin George Colbath, who is my biological father whom I do not know anything about at all, don't have a birth date, or where he came from and was not married to my mother. It's a long story, but to sum it up I tried to see if I could find him thru genealogy and posted a lot of messages, no good lead yet. I did find a Calvin Colbath in the soc sec death index, but that person was only 2yrs older than me, and I could not find an obituary on him, maybe I didn't try in the right way. If Calvin George Colbath is alive which he may not be, he may be in his mid to late 80's...Glad to hear from you, and if you can shed some light in anyway on what else I can do to find him or where he came from or find any of his relatives, I would appreciate it.....Hope to hear from you, thanks Marie Colbath maries- at -fcgnetworks.net

Dear Dad, Your day sounds busy, busy, busy. As for me...? I'm busy taking three classes -- it used to be five classes, but I had to drop two because my back wouldn't allow all that sitting and studying. I'm also busy running after and/or entertaining a two year old. Life is never boring.

We, along with a lot of other folks involved with the STS-107 mission, (the shuttle that blew up recently) were invited to the opening day of the Astros. Ole went down with 106 of his fellow co-workers to the field and held up an enormous American flag. The national anthem was performed and Patti LaBelle belted out a song that if Sophie wasn't distracting me by playing her favorite game of taking my sunglasses on and off my face, I would have been crying a waterfall. They also flew an eagle across the field. Apparently after being injured in the wild as a chick, there's was too much human contact to return it back to the

wild. Good for us because the eagle is such a majestic and beautiful bird, and it was wonderful to see a real, live bird on this occasion. It was very emotional.

Since we were the guests of the owner of the Astros, delicious food was provided -- fresh vegetable quesedillas, hotdogs, pecan crusted chicken strips, popcorn, tortilla chips with hot spinach cheese dip -- well, you get the idea, it was yummy. There was just one problem. As you can imagine, with me not working Ole and I are on a pretty tight budget and we didn't bring much money. After all, what would we need money for! We were the guests of the owner of the Astros! So, here we are with our plates piled

high, every single item on those plates was, by its very nature, very salty. Whew, that food was good, but by the time we reached the bottom of those plates we're were all very, very thirsty. To our horror we discovered that the drinks did not come along with the food and it cost $3.50 for a small plastic tumbler of soda. YIKES! We were parched and had a heck of a time trying to find a water fountain in that brand spanking new ball park.

Then last night, something else wonderful happened. A friend of mine invited me to go with her and some other friends to see Stars on Ice. I love ice skating and it was thrilling to watch the show from third row seats!!! It was spectacular!

Love, Deb Colbeth-Nilssen, League City, Texas.

Dear Dad, My wife's a hawk in stark contrast to me--I'm a dove. I take it very much to heart when it becomes necessary to place American lives at risk. Last I heard, 101 American lives have been lost in the war since the beginning. I continue to wonder if there was another alternative to war. Yet, my wife reminds me that the International Community has been patient with Saddam for some 12 years now; it's time to remove the Iraqi threat of weapons of mass destruction [she like to quote GW]. She too tells me that the Iraqi people have long suffered under the cruelty of Saddam. She cites other reasons but those are her major points. I don't necessarily disagree with her view points, it's just why is it the U.S.A.'s sole responsibility--not forgetting Britain and Australia--to be the lone wolf in the world in this dangerous endeavor to de-throne Saddam? Be that as it may, the time for debate is over; it's time to be solidly in support of our troops over there. I detest the protesters in the States. They may not be old enough or wise enough to have learned the lessons Vietnam taught us. Talk to you later...Jim Colbeth, Holland, Pennsylvania

BreakPoint with Charles Colson

Commentary #030314 - 03/14/2003

Torture TV: Creating a 'Lust for Cruelty'

It was not a sight for the faint of heart: The woman was shackled to a chair. And then her tormentor picked up several needles and drove them into her arm until they came out the other side. The woman grimaced in pain and began to sweat profusely. Blood dripped from her arm. How much more could she take before she broke?……………………………

Torture is a terrible thing, and we've heard a lot of talk lately about whether we should torture al-Qaeda terrorists. And just this week in Germany it was reported that a policeman will be prosecuted for

threatening to torture a kidnapper to find out where the child he kidnapped was being held……………….

Most commentators say that we should never resort to torture. But ironically, the torture scene I was just describing was not involving terrorists or kidnappers. It was torture being administered for the entertainment of a television audience -- another indication of how degraded our culture has become. No one had to watch, of course; they watched willingly.

The woman in the chair was a "guest" on the NBC program FEAR FACTOR, the latest and perhaps vilest of so-called "reality" TV. It was bad enough when, in past weeks, FEAR FACTOR contestants ate cockroaches or allowed themselves to be bitten by rats to win big money. And chowing down on liquified pig livers and reindeer testicles is beyond gross even if you get your "fifteen minutes of fame."

More than one reality TV reviewer says that, while he is revolted by what he is watching, he can't tear his eyes away. And that ought to sound a warning bell for Christians. The early Church faced a similar situation when it confronted the bloody and murderous gladiatorial contests. In the second century, the Bishop Tertullian criticized Christians who enjoyed these spectacles and warned that their own degradation would result from nourishing a

"passion for murderous pleasure."

A story from Augustine's CONFESSIONS helps us to understand why. Augustine's friend Alypius vowed that he would never again witness a gladiatorial contest. But one day he was dragged by some friends into the arena. Augustine writes that "Alypius shut his eyes tightly. . . . [But] if only he had shut his ears as well! For an incident in the fight drew a

great roar from the crowd." Alypius couldn't contain his curiosity. He opened his eyes, and,

Augustine says, "His soul was stabbed with a wound more deadly than any which the gladiator had received in his body." He reveled in the gore,

drunk with bloodlust. Alypius was hooked.

The secular Roman playwright Seneca warned that when we make a sport of maiming and killing human beings, we render ourselves less humane. We

destroy the respectful kindness, the humanitas, characteristic of the virtuous person. Research bears him out. Criminologist James Q. Wilson describes research that links violent television with real-life copycat crimes…………………………………………

Most commentators believe that torture is something in which no civilized people should engage. That includes the torture of terrorists or kidnappers for information. But can we, on the one hand, oppose that, and then enjoy torture in entertainment? TV shows that offer torture for fun destroy our humanity -- our compassion toward our fellow creatures for whom Christ died…………………

Everything I need to know about life, I learned from Noah's Ark...

1. Don't procrastinate and miss the boat. Ask any Unicorn.

2. Remember that we are all in the same boat.

3. Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.

4. Stay fit. When you're 600 years old, God may ask you to do something really big for Him.

5. Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.

6. For safety's sake, travel in pairs

7. Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.

8. When you're stressed, float a while.

9. Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.

In Memory of David Bloom

If.

If I could turn the sands of time Back to yesterday

I'd hold you close and kiss you And this is what I'd say.

I came for such a little while To briefly stay with you

My life was filled with things I loved So much for me to do.

Thirty-nine years is much too short To live upon this earth

But in the days that I was here I know I proved my worth.

I lived each day as though the last And I never missed the chance

To sing the songs that touched my heart And I took the time to dance.

Fourteen thousand two hundred and thirty-nine days

Were all that I was given

But I've lived my life in my own way And I did my share of living.

So, don't be sad now that I've gone For I'm in a better place

Deep in your heart you know again You'll look upon my face.

Golf: Ever wonder why there are 18 holes to a golf course? Evidently, when the Scotch invented the game that was how many shots of whiskey it took to play a round so they quit and an American invented the 19th hole.

Hydration Nation: If drinking 8 glasses of water a day has you wearing a path to the bathroom, set down your cup, relax and quit flushing all those vitamins & minerals down the drain. There's no proof we need to drink "8x8" each day, according to Dartmouth Medical School physiologist Heinz Valtin. Drink when you're thirsty and you'll do fine.

New York's Ellis Island records: Go to the American Family Immigration History Center [ellisislandrecords.org].

TV Decency: Did you know that there's a law against indecency on broadcast television? Alone, you and I complaining to the FCC would be like tugging on Superman's cape. But there's an organization, Parents Television Council, with the resources, the people, the focus and the long-term dedication to make the FCC pay attention. Write to them at 707 Wilshire Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90017 and see what they are doing to clean up your living room. Then the only thing you would have to complain about is all the sex and violence on your VCR.

June Personal Profile: Betty Colbath-Hamilton's grandson, Sean - a very interesting young man, indeed.
